About the role
As an AI Engineer joining as a contractor, you will work closely with partner NGOs to build reference codebases, streamline analytics data, and develop internal tools for running digital intervention experiments. You will advise organizations on implementing generative AI products, mentor their technical teams on industry best practices, open-source impactful innovations, and conduct occasional site visits to assess and address technical infrastructure needs.
What you'll do
- Build reference codebases and internal experimentation tools for the social sector to learn from and adapt.
- Provide technical guidance and support to partner NGOs developing generative AI and LLM solutions.
- Streamline data across diverse sources into a single source of truth for organizational analytics.
- Ship rapid iterations and open-source non-trivial innovations developed through partner engagements.
- Mentor NGO technical staff and organize workshops on research mindsets, tooling, and personalization.
- Conduct site visits to evaluate NGO operations and craft actionable technical recommendations.
What you bring
- 5+ years of software engineering experience at tech and product-driven companies.
- Proficiency in TypeScript, React, and modern web frontend technologies.
- Strong backend engineering skills with Python and relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
- Experience designing, running, and analyzing experiments using R, SQL, or Python.
- Solid experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and data integration pipelines.
- Active interest and working familiarity with large language models (LLMs) and generative AI.
