About the role
As an Ubuntu Linux Kernel Engineer on the Silicon Enablement team, you will collaborate closely with silicon vendor partners such as NVIDIA, Xilinx, MediaTek, and Qualcomm to bring Ubuntu support to their product lines. You will be responsible for building, patching, and maintaining optimized kernel variants, diagnosing complex hardware-level bugs, enhancing test automation, and collaborating with both internal teams and upstream kernel maintainers.
What you'll do
- Collaborate proactively with a globally distributed engineering team.
- Work closely with silicon vendor partners to integrate their platform support into the Ubuntu Linux kernel.
- Diagnose and resolve kernel issues reported by partners, customers, and open-source communities.
- Submit, review, and apply kernel patches in coordination with upstream maintainers.
- Improve tooling and automation for the testing and delivery of Ubuntu Linux kernels.
- Identify and implement new optimizations to maximize performance on partner silicon.
What you bring
- Significant programming proficiency in C and solid background with Git.
- Strong grasp of device drivers, BSPs, and hardware-level system engineering.
- Sound understanding of operating system kernel fundamentals.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to travel twice a year for company sprint events of up to two weeks in duration.
