About the role
As Technical Manager for Automotive and Industrial, you will build and lead a dedicated engineering team tasked with adapting Canonical's products to automotive and industrial compliance requirements, including standards like ISO 26262, ISO 21434, and IEC 61508. Reporting to the VP of Engineering Excellence, you will partner closely with product management to define and execute the engineering roadmap, represent Canonical and Ubuntu in industry consortia, and drive agile practices while championing software quality and security.
What you'll do
- Work with Product Management to define and execute the engineering roadmap and vision for automotive at Canonical
- Build, lead, mentor, and coach a globally distributed team of software engineers
- Represent Ubuntu and Canonical in automotive communities, standards consortia, and with enterprise partners
- Ensure Linux distributions and products comply with relevant safety and cybersecurity standards such as ISO 26262 and ISO 21434
- Advocate and implement modern agile engineering practices to maintain high delivery quality and security
- Participate in international travel twice a year for up to two weeks at a time for company sprints
What you bring
- Strong background in software engineering, Linux, open source, packaging, and embedded development
- Knowledge of automotive and industrial safety standards like ISO 21434, ISO 26262, SOTIF, or IEC 61508
- Proficiency in C/C++ and Python programming
- Proven track record of managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers in an agile environment
- Practical experience with automotive functional safety, embedded systems, and cloud software trends
