About the role
As a Sustaining Operations Engineer, you will handle critical issues across the entire open source stack above the kernel, spanning bare metal, virtualization (KVM), containerization (Docker, LXD), storage (Ceph), and networking. You will be the final point of escalation for operational troubleshooting, driving issues to resolution with workarounds, guidance, and upstream fixes for Ubuntu and enterprise customers, while participating in a regular weekend working rotation.
What you'll do
- Resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, OpenStack, Ceph, and Kubernetes
- Debug issues, propose workarounds, and liaise with Software Engineers on producing patches
- Participate in upstream open source communities and Canonical product engineering discussions
- Serve as the final point of technical escalation on critical operational issues
- Participate in a regular weekend working rotation and maintain clear technical communication
- Travel internationally up to 10% of work time for internal team meetings and events
What you bring
- Professional experience troubleshooting advanced Linux issues
- Exceptionally strong experience with Linux, LXD, OpenStack, Ceph, or Kubernetes
- Strong debugging experience with Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux
- Ability to troubleshoot using tools such as gdb, pdb, tcpdump, and git
- Background in Computer Science, STEM, or similar field with a strong academic track record
- Willingness to travel up to 4 times per year for internal events and team sprints
