About the role

As an Analytics Engineer at Alpaca, you will lead the architecture and execution of the company's data transformation layer on an open-source, GCP-based data platform processing hundreds of millions of events daily. Collaborating closely with Data Engineers, Data Scientists, and cross-functional business stakeholders, you will build and maintain scalable dbt models, optimize query performance across OLTP and OLAP systems, establish semantic layers, and ensure enterprise-grade data quality and discoverability.

What you'll do

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data models using dbt and SQL to support reporting and operational metrics.
  • Establish and enforce technical standards and best practices for data modeling, testing, version control, and monitoring.
  • Collaborate directly with finance, operations, customer success, and marketing teams to understand requirements and deliver reliable data products.
  • Create repeatable integration patterns between data models, BI tools, and reverse ETL workflows.
  • Champion robust CI/CD workflows, change management, code reviews, and data warehouse performance optimizations.

What you bring

  • 4+ years of experience in analytics engineering or data engineering with deep focus on ELT transformations.
  • Expert-level SQL and dbt skills alongside proficiency in Python for complex data transformations.
  • Proven track record of end-to-end data product ownership and semantic layer modeling (e.g., Cube, dbt Semantic Layer).
  • Hands-on experience with query optimization across OLTP and OLAP systems (e.g., Postgres, Iceberg) and cloud environments (GCP or AWS).
  • Experience owning Git-based CI/CD workflows and standardizing code review practices.
