About the role
This is a general track engineering role covering teams across Canonical that build everything from system utilities and desktop tools to scalable web services and Kubernetes backends. You will write idiomatic, thoroughly tested Python code, produce high-quality technical documentation, and collaborate directly with the broader open-source community.
What you'll do
- Write high-quality, well-designed, and well-tested Python software
- Collaborate proactively with a globally distributed team across various time zones
- Display technical leadership within Canonical and across open-source communities
- Debug issues and produce high-quality code to fix them
- Contribute to technical documentation with the aim to make it the best of its kind
- Travel internationally twice a year for company events and team sprints
What you bring
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling narrative about an alternative path
- Demonstrated experience writing thoroughly designed, modern, and maintainable Python
- Hands-on experience with Linux, preferably Debian or Ubuntu
- Professional written and spoken English communication skills
- Ability to travel globally twice a year for company sprints of up to two weeks each
