About the role
As the Security Engineering Manager, you will directly impact the safety and security of millions of users worldwide by securing Canonical products such as Ubuntu. You will lead, coach, and mentor a team of engineers ranging from graduate to senior levels, providing technical guidance on vulnerability remediation and CVE lifecycle handling. Additionally, you will coordinate with upstream open-source projects, implement disciplined agile engineering practices, and serve as an active member of the security engineering leadership team.
What you'll do
- Lead, develop, coach, and provide career guidance for engineers ranging from graduate to senior levels
- Provide technical guidance on vulnerability remediation and oversee handling of CVE lifecycles
- Drive the development and progress of new security engineering projects and disciplined engineering practices
- Collaborate with upstream open source projects, internal teams, partners, and customers on security initiatives
- Identify and measure team health indicators, managing delivery against agreed goals
What you bring
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or exceptional equivalent background
- Solid software development background with mastery in any major programming language (e.g., Go, Java, C, Python)
- Deep knowledge and passion for software and application security, with agile development experience
- Demonstrated track record of developing, growing, and mentoring engineering talent
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Willingness to travel twice a year for in-person company events lasting up to two weeks each
