About the role
As an Engineering Manager for Security Standards and Hardening at Canonical, you will lead a distributed team of engineers certifying core open-source components and establishing security best practices across Ubuntu deployments. The team collaborates with industry partners like CIS and DISA on cryptography modules (FIPS 140), DISA-STIG, and CIS benchmarks. In this role, you will be responsible for people management, engineering execution, career development, and representing Ubuntu's security initiatives to partners and enterprise customers.
What you'll do
- Lead, mentor, and coach a team of engineers ranging from graduate to senior levels.
- Implement disciplined engineering processes and monitor team health indicators.
- Plan and oversee progress on compliance goals including FIPS, CIS, STIG, FedRAMP, and the CRA.
- Drive efforts addressing cryptographic modules (FIPS 140) and system hardening with CIS and DISA.
- Represent team deliverables and products to external partners, customers, and open-source communities.
What you bring
- Exceptional academic track record with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a STEM field (or equivalent).
- Demonstrated track record of coaching and developing engineering talent.
- Prior experience working on FIPS/Common Criteria certified products and deep knowledge of underlying standards.
- Experience working directly with DISA-STIG or CIS benchmarks and related audit/remediation tooling.
- Professional English communication skills and ability to travel up to twice a year for in-person company sprints.
