About the role
As an Engineering Manager at Canonical, you will lead a distributed engineering team focused on the MLOps and Analytics portfolio, balancing people management, technical delivery, and architectural guidance. You will conduct 1-on-1s, track team health, review Python code, and collaborate with product managers and architects on engineering roadmaps while representing Canonical in open-source communities.
What you'll do
- Manage and mentor a distributed team of engineers working on MLOps and analytics tools
- Organize team processes, conduct regular 1-on-1 meetings, and monitor team health indicators
- Collaborate with architects and product managers to define and execute the engineering roadmap
- Perform code reviews, ensure quality engineering practices, and provide architectural leadership
- Interact with the open-source community and represent Canonical's MLOps solutions at conferences
- Travel globally 2 to 4 weeks per year for internal team sprints and events
What you bring
- Proven track record of professional software delivery and engineering leadership
- Professional Python development experience, preferably within open-source ecosystems
- Demonstrated understanding of the machine learning landscape and MLOps architecture
- Experience designing and implementing containerized or cloud-based MLOps solutions
- Exceptional academic track record and willingness to travel internationally up to 4 times a year
