About the role
As the Security Engineering Manager for AppArmor, you will lead a team of engineers building critical security features and mandatory access controls that safeguard millions of Ubuntu users. You will be responsible for line management, mentoring talent ranging from graduates to senior engineers, establishing disciplined engineering practices, and representing your team technical vision to internal leaders, open-source communities, and enterprise customers.
What you'll do
- Lead, mentor, and provide career development feedback to a team of graduate to senior engineers.
- Implement disciplined engineering processes and identify key team health indicators.
- Plan and manage progress on AppArmor security goals and cross-team projects.
- Represent the AppArmor team and product to stakeholders, partners, and community members.
- Collaborate actively with the broader security engineering leadership team.
What you bring
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling narrative about an alternative path.
- Proficiency in C and a solid understanding of Linux kernel development and Linux Security Modules.
- Knowledgeable and passionate about software and application security.
- Proven track record of managing, mentoring, and growing engineering talent.
- Solid experience working in an agile software development environment.
- Ability to travel twice a year for in-person company events of up to two weeks each.
