About the role
This is a general selection process for software engineers focused on virtualization and container technology, spanning Linux kernel namespaces, confinement, VMMs, networking, and high-level management APIs. Successful applicants work with Go, Rust, or C/C++ across Canonical projects such as RustVMM, LXD, Rockcraft, MicroK8s, and Charmed OpenStack, collaborating directly with open source upstream communities on security- and performance-critical systems.
What you'll do
- Design and specify new features, building consensus on technical approach
- Engage with open source upstream communities in your area of expertise
- Conduct security analysis and reviews to maintain defense in depth
- Create and monitor performance benchmarks to optimize products
- Write, debug, and review high-quality system-level code in Go, Rust, or C/C++
What you bring
- Experience working in the Linux kernel or low-level systems programming
- Demonstrated experience working on open source virtualization or container technologies
- Proficiency in Go, Rust, or C/C++ development
- Undergraduate STEM degree or a compelling narrative about an alternative path with a strong academic track record
- Ability to travel internationally up to twice a year for team events of up to two weeks each
