About the role
In this role, you will automate, manage, and scale PostHog's core ClickHouse infrastructure as data volume grows toward trillions of events per year. You will lead dynamic instance provisioning, execute node and instance-level performance optimizations, experiment with modern cloud hardware, and work on query performance tooling including an in-house ClickHouse query optimizer.
What you'll do
- Build systems and automations for dynamic provisioning and scaling of ClickHouse clusters handling over 100 PB of data.
- Perform node- and instance-level performance optimization across ClickHouse workloads.
- Investigate and experiment with the latest cloud provider hardware to optimize database performance.
- Automate infrastructure deployments using Terraform, Ansible, and Kubernetes.
- Contribute to query performance tooling and query optimizer development for ClickHouse.
What you bring
- Deep technical experience with the internals of ClickHouse or other OLAP databases.
- Demonstrated experience automating dynamic provisioning of instances using Terraform, Ansible, and Kubernetes.
- Proven track record building and operating large-scale, complex distributed data storage solutions.
- Familiarity with the stack including Python, AWS, and ZooKeeper (or ZooKeeper alternatives).
