About the role
This is a highly hands-on technical leadership role focused on prototyping, architecting, and validating AI-powered workflows for CLion and the broader C++ ecosystem. Rather than managing people, you will direct technical strategy at the crossroads of developer tools, coding agents, and IDE architecture. You will design tools, evaluation benchmarks, and integration points that enable modern coding agents to seamlessly assist with debugging, code understanding, and large-scale refactoring in mature codebases.
What you'll do
- Shape and deliver AI-powered features, integrations, and agent tools for CLion and C++ development workflows.
- Design technical architecture and contribute hands-on implementation to large JVM-based IDE codebases.
- Build practical benchmarks and evaluation frameworks for AI-assisted C++ development scenarios.
- Prototype new agentic workflows for debugging, code understanding, project navigation, and refactoring.
- Collaborate across JetBrains AI, ML, product, and QA teams to define the AI strategy for C++.
What you bring
- Extensive software engineering experience as a Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, or Technical Lead.
- Strong proficiency with Kotlin, Java, or other JVM technologies, or demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to JVM codebases.
- Demonstrated experience building AI-powered developer tools, coding assistants, or LLM-based agentic workflows.
- Deep understanding of coding agent mechanisms including tool calling, context management, MCP, and evaluation techniques.
- Track record of steering technical direction in ambiguous domains while influencing across multidisciplinary teams.
